Divine wisdom: Are the actions of God arbitrary & random?

[He does not desire injustice and disobedience.]

—Allah does not create injustice, disbelief, and disobedience. Similarly, Allah, in His Mercy and Wisdom, does not desire injustice, disbelief, and disobedience. If Allah desired injustice and disobedience, He would be tyrannical. This is impossible regarding Allah. This is proven from the Qur’ān, the Sunnah, and the imams of the Ahl al-Bayt, upon them be peace.

Regarding the proofs from the Book of Allah, we cite the verses that we previously mentioned: {Allah does not desire injustice for His slaves} (Q. 40:31), {He is not pleased with disbelief for His slaves} (Q. 39:7), and {Allah does not commit injustice; even an atom’s weight} (Q. 4:40).

We also cite the following verses as a proof: {Verily, Allah is not unjust to man a bit. But, it is he that is unjust to himself} (Q. 10:44), {It is not Allah that was unjust to them. Rather, it is they who were unjust to themselves} (Q. 29:40), and {And your Lord will not treat any of them unjustly} (Q. 18:49).

Regarding the proofs from the Prophetic sunnah, we already cited the hadīth qudsi in which the Exalted says to the Messenger, peace and blessings be

upon him and his progeny: ((I have made injustice prohibited upon Myself as well as My slaves)).

Bismillah

There are those who claim that God’s will & actions are based upon randomness. How is such a thing possible when God is the Creator of reason, the creator of intelligence & the creator of purpose?

These are evidently great qualities, so how can He lack them?

The intelligent & reasonable act based on wisdom, benefit, reason & truth, so does the Creator of reason who contains infinite knowledge & intelligence act based on randomness?

How can such a deficient thing befit His Glory & Majesty?

It is evident that God Almighty commands & legislates based on what is right & what is true!

Otherwise, randomness will be a limitation upon His wisdom. In fact, this is what both reason & revelation dictates!

Otherwise, polytheism will be evil or wrong based on random legislation, not based on a coherent reason. Similarly, worshiping the Creator would have no purpose or value in of it self as well. We would just worship Him just because He said or commanded it, not because worshipping His majesty is the right thing to do.
