Allah decrees & judges based on truth not randomness

Bismillah

I have always had an intuitive & rational distance & despise against the general Ash’arite concept of good & evil which is then tied to theories regarding the causes behind God’s commandments, legislations & decree.

It is impossible for God’s will & law to be based on arbitrariness, chance or randomness. How can it be possible that the Creator of all, the creator of intelligence, reason & purpose act based on randomness? It is self-evident that such a thing is impossible & incoherent. Instead, God acts based on truth, based on what is right and what is good due to Him knowing the intricate details of all that He has created.

After establishing rational proofs to further substantiate the intuitively known reality of God acting based on truth, justice & goodness, I decided to search for more textual evidence from the Qur’an which verifies this self-evident truth.

Then I looked at a Zaydi Usul Aqida Thology book named ‘The Precious Necklace concerning the Gnosis of the Lord of the Worlds’ by Sayed Amir al-Hussain b. Muhammad Badreddin al-Hadawi.

Sayed Amir asserts ‘If it is said: Does your Lord decree outside of truth? Say: Certainly not! He does not decree with disbelief and disobedience; insomuch that it is contradictory to wisdom and appropriateness. It is as the Exalted says: {Allah decrees in truth} (Qur’an 40:20).’

Moreover, in regard to decreeing, judging & willing based on truth, Allah in the Qur’an also mentions ‘judgment is only for Allah. He relates the truth, and He is the best of deciders.’ (Qur’an 6:57)

The Qur’an clearly reminds us that Allah decrees in truth! He does not decree due to desire, nor does He decree randomly. Allah decrees based on what is true and what is right. To add to this, the verse before reads, ‘Allah ˹even˺ knows the sly glances of the eyes and whatever the hearts conceal.’ (Qur’an 40:19). What this verse indicates is that Allah is omniscient, He is knowledgeable over every fine detail of the reality He has created. Meaning that the truth is with Him, thus God decrees based on truth, the Almighty wills exactly what is right!
